Once again, an international conference with a tour of Fairbank Oil Fields and the Oil Museum of Canada, has been rescheduled due to Covid-19. It is now set for August 25-27, 2022. Fingers crossed.
The International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Archeology (TICCIH) produced an indepth study on the World Heritage potential of petroleum sites and this conference brings in experts to discuss the study. Fairbank Oil Fields was one of the 13 case studies included in the report. (See Find Out More tab to The Heritage of the Oil Industry by James Douet)
Both TICCIH and The International Committee on Monuments and Sites provide technical expertise to World Heritage.
Together, the Oil Museum of Canada and Fairbank Oil will be once again applying for Canada’s Tentative List to be recommended for World Heritage designation.
